Casa Freschi
Adelaide Hills & Langhorne Creek, SA
Casa Freschi was one of the first Italian varietal and style specialists in Australia for sommeliers to cut their teeth on back in the late 90’s. Already an experienced winemaker, it was David Freschi’s 1994 vintage in Puglia that provided the final inspiration to combine his experience, love of nature and natural creativity to establish Casa Freschi. Initially David produced the Profondo and La Signora red blends from his family vineyard in Langhorne Creek. It was planted in 1972 by his father Attilio, so that the family could have good wine at mealtimes.
Today it boasts Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Malbec and Nebbiolo vines. In 2003 David purchased an old high-altitude orchard and market garden at Ashton, in the Adelaide Hills. Making the most of the land’s natural amphitheatres David established high density plantings of Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Riesling and Gewürztraminer for a premium white range.
Both vineyards are managed in harmony with nature, using organic philosophies and practices to achieve high quality from small yields. Minimal interference is practiced in the winery to allow the vineyards and regions to express themselves clearly. The whites are textural, aromatic and pure wines of the Adelaide Hills and the reds share the sumptuous generosity of Langhorne, with more than a nod to Italian fine structure and savoury aroma.
