Thousand Candles

2020 Gathering Field Sauvignon Blanc

A textural and savoury style, this wine is not meant to be the standard style that many associate with the variety. Handpicked with 50% of the wine being fermented on skins for 21 days. Flavours of tropical fruits, pink grapefruit and some spicy pear notes. Bright and fresh acidity with subtle chalky tannins. - Thousand Candles

2020 Gathering field Rosé

Fresh scents of cherries, raspberries and some light spiciness from the Merlot. Red berries and cream on the palate with a slippery mouthfeel and slight herbal spice. Handpicked, pressed to the tanks and fermented prior to ageing for 4 months in old French oak. A tasty and textural round rosé whether served with food or by itself. - Thousand Candles

2019 Gathering Field Pinot Noir

Rich complex style with plum and red and dark berry fruits plus layers of spice, earth and sage/rosemary herbs. Layers of complexity. Super concentration here with ripe red fruits, rich texture, sweet floral burst and grainy loose knit tannins. Fruit and savoury elements beautifully balanced as usual. First class Yarra Pinot to suit all occasions.

2021 Gathering Field Nouveau Red

A vibrant, juicy and crunchy red wine. Light, bright red fruits with fresh acidity. Made from Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Merlot. Each parcel is handpicked, then left for 7 days before pressing and fermented in tank. The wines are blended and left in the tank with no oak influence prior to bottling. Serve chilled – the perfect summer red! - Thousand Candles

2017 Gathering Field Shiraz

“This wine has lifted floral notes, with bright red fruit on the nose. The palate is finely structured, displaying dark berries, cinnamon, spice and an attractive earthiness. A classic cool climate Shiraz.” – Stuart Proud, Winemaker.

94 Points – Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2020

2018 Gathering Field Red Blend

A blend of Merlot (53%), Cabernet Sauvignon (18%), Malbec (11%) and Cabernet Franc (18%). This is our first release from young vines planted in 2011 & 2012. The block is planted at a high density of 7353 wines per hectare. Aromas of red berries, mushrooms and earthiness. The pallet is alive with red fruit, cassis and forest floor. A soft and elegant tannin profile with great structure. - Thousand Candles

2017 Field Blend

95 Points“Bright, clear crimson-purple. The very fragrant bouquet is crammed full of cherry blossom; the palate precisely following its footprints. A slightly savoury finish adds to the interest and quality.” – Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2020

94 Points – Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, December 2018

2019 Single Vineyard Pinot Noir

The best Pinot Noir block is isolated early in the growing season and managed accordingly with the aim of producing our most premium pinot noir. Fruit is hand-picked in the cool of the morning. The fruit is then separated for two individual ferments, whole bunch and whole berry (de-stemmed). Fermentation is carried out by wild yeasts with only the occasional pump over. The whole berry ferment accounts for 60% of the final blend and the whole bunch 40% of the blend. The whole berry component provides a purity of fruit whilst the whole bunch component adds complexity and lovely tight tannin structure to the final wine. After fermentation, the wines are pressed and then aged in 4-7 year old French barriques.

The nose displays aromas of raspberry and herbs with an attractive earthiness. The palate shows red berries, pomegranate and some lovely forest floor characters. A fine tannin profile and bright natural acid lift provide great depth and structure to the plate. The beautiful acidity suggests this. - Thousand Candles

2017 Single Vineyard Syrah

96 Points“Powerful and complex, medium to full-bodied overall. Here the tannins make their presence felt but are better balanced and integrated than its Gathering Field sibling. Intense berries remain the centre of a palate also offering darker fruit notes, earth, tannins and spices.” – Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2020

96 Points – Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, December 2018
